the water project
I created a satirical ‘solution’ to the lack of access to safe drinking water around the city of Detroit. I first researched the Flint water crisis, which then led me to the fact that many older houses around Detroit are equipped with similarly terrible lead pipes. While the Flint water crisis is a well known public safety issue, most don’t realize that there is the potential for a similar situation to occur in Detroit.
My ‘solution’ to this problem, since the Detroit water and sewage department seems to have none, is a DIY pipe replacement kit. I created a kit complete with multiple useless objects, as well as a useless instruction sheet to use to replace your own lead pipes in your home.
This is obviously not a feasible solution, and is meant to act as a commentary on the lack of responsibility taken by our local government and public service organizations in concern for our safety and health.
