detroit: in plain sight

In collaboration with 2 of my classmates, we created a hypothetical scavenger hunt around the city of Detroit. The content of the project was fueled by research that we conducted into the extreme wealth disparity that exists within the city.

We took a satirical approach, putting a twist on the typical light-natured scavenger hunt. We selected different locations around the city that highlighted the issues we found, such as the fact that Detroit is a food desert. We included Whole Foods as one of the stops on our scavenger hunt since it’s a notoriously pricey place to shop for groceries, despite the fact that it’s not sustainable for many Detroit residents.

At the end of our scavenger hunt, the player is led to a pre-written letter to the governor expressing concern about the wealth disparity in Detroit and calling for action in providing more funding for public programs and services around the city.
